Today was the second day of BELL camp. The Blindness Lesson was: Captain Whozit Saves the Day, a play performed by the NFB Austin Chapter about Clumsy Claire; a little girl who struggles with her low vision. She meets a super hero named Captain Whozit, who teaches her about how to accept her blindness. In Reading students played with puff Braille, and created letters out of puffy material. Writing focused on learning the parts of the Braille Writer. In Nonvisual class, students made candy jewelry. In extracurricular students examined different types of adaptive technology. In Morning BELL Ringers, many positive experiences were shared to the group. One student made their first candy bracelet-nonvisually, and another really enjoyed the play about Captain Whozit.
The lunch was a happy meal from McDonald’s. For recess student experimented with different discovery toys. Our Special Guest Reader was Kristi, a nice woman who is a Braille teacher by trade, and a Braille reader. The Group Activity involved listening and making their own Braille rap. We will always end with Journal writing on the Braille writers. We will be having a videographer, so please try and remember to have the children wear their T-Shirts. Tomorrow’s tease is: Doe Rey, Mi. !
