Austin BELL Camp Day 5

Today was the fith day of BELL camp. In Blindness Lesson, Students got to participate in a Sound Scavenger hunt. This involved walking around the building with their canes and an independent blind adult and taking note of different sounds. Examples were: automatic doors, people talking, elevator bell, high-heals, machinery, etc… In Reading students played Braille Twister. In writing some students were able to experiment drawing with their Braille writer. In Extra Curricular students colored raised line pictures. In Nonvisual class students learned how to maneuver a talking microwave. Students watched a Descriptive movie for a morning group activity; The Manny Adventures of Winnie the Poo.
The lunch was pizza. For recess students had a great time making splatter paint with Casilda-a art teacher for AISD and partner in the Austin BELL camp, and familiarize themselves with an alternative artistic concept. The reader for the day was Kimberly who works at the Texas Work Force, and a Braille reader. BELL Ringers were presented at the open house with parents participating in the celebration of one student using her cane down the stairs, and another learned some Braille contractions. Monday’s tease is: let’s start out the second week of BELL camp with a bang!
