Please tell me how I can become a member of the NFB. I am not blind, but wish to become an ally/advocate. I am a Registered Nurse, a board certified Hospice nurse, and have recently submitted an application to the School for the Blind here in Austin, TX.
A dear friend of mine is blind, and has increased my awareness of issues of the Blind, and how underserved this population really is. I am just one person, but I believe that as long as I try to do what I can, I would do whatever I could to improve this situation.
Thanks!

Thank you for your interest. We are always glad to accept new members blind or not. The best way to join is to attend one of our chapter meetings. We will be meeting on the second Saturdays of the month throughout 2012. Come and see what we’re about in our January 14 meeting, and if you don’t think we’re crazy
join us at the end of the meeting. You can also join on the website if you just can’t make the meeting. Dues are $5.
I hope to meet you in January.
Please let me know the address of the venue, and I will surely be there! Thanks so much for your response – I will apply for membership online, so that I will be a member when I arrive for the meeting.
Again, thanks so much!
Mary Burgess
Meetings are held in the Austin History Center at 810 Guadelupe. Our full schedule of meetings is available at: http://www.nfbaustin.org/2012-meeting-schedule/
